Riding Through Winters Wonderland

Mt Hood is one of my favorite subjects to paint.  I use my artist's license to create interesting foregrounds.  Adding horses and riders is always fun.  I will be gifting this to my sister in law for Christmas.  I hope she likes it.

"Whoo?"

My Sister In Law, Gisela's submission to the Wild Bird Festival.  I love this.  It has a "Nightmare Before Christmas," quality.

"Happy Meadowlark"

My Sister Donna's Wild Bird Festival submission. This looks like a photo.  Well done.

"The Raven"

My cousin Gabrielle's submission for the Wild Bird Festival November 19-20th 2011.  Gabrielle worked for Disney studios in the 60's.

Duck Call

This is my back up painting for the Wild Bird Festival.  I'm still deciding which painting to submit.  This one or the Hummingbird's "Behind the Glass."

"The Finale Curve"

I've been admiring different artists techniques to paint "loose."  Here is my attempt at painting loose.  I fought the urge to add more detail, fuss with....change this or that.  I finally told myself to leave it alone.   For most artists who paint "loose" they finish the piece in one sitting.  This took me six.  I hope you enjoy it.

The Traveling Painting

This is the first stage of the Burg Family Traveling Painting.  At this time, no one knows it exists.  I chose a branch originally so everyone could add a bird and then it occurred to me that it could be a family tree.  That's sort of a stretch, so I think adding birds was a better idea.  I hope my family will exercise their creative juices and express themselves in ways they didn't realize they knew how.  They can change this in any way they want.  I can't wait to see what they come up with.  They are asked to sign on the back and to write their thoughts in the journal that will accompany the painting on it's journey.  As the photos come in....hopefully in the order that paint has been added, I will post them to this blog.

Art per day for January 2011

Here are all of the paintings and drawings from my Art per day for January 2011.  They are not in order, this arrangement looked better.  The largest painting is 11"x 9" and the smalest 2"x 4" most were 4" x 6" post card size.

Art per day, 1-31-11 Rockaway

Rockaway will be my finale submission for "Art per Day" this time around.  I've enjoyed painting and drawing each day throughout January.  I hope you have enjoyed viewing my Art per day.  Perhaps in the future, I will be able to give this challenge another try.  At the begining, when  I challenged myself to do Art per Day for an entire year, I really had no idea what I was getting myself in for, or how fast the time would go and how many times I was in a crunch to get something posted.  Please check back from time to time to see whats new.  Thank you for checking in with me. Earth Wind and Fire

By special request from my sister.
this was definitely a challenge for me.  It had to be painted in reverse.  The finished side had to be painted first.  I scraped a lot of paint off before I was half way satisfied.  In the daylight, you can see the gold and the silver shimmer.

Art per day, 1-15-11 Winter's Wonder on Hwy 30

Art per day, 1-14-11 Sesquecentennial Oregon Trail Ride, on the way to Wells Spring 1993

I had a late start on this one.....I had to wait for my grandchildren to go to bed to begin painting....and they didn't go to bed until after 9:30!  I did the sketching at work during my lunchtime.  I finished up while watching Letterman...Yawn.
