Ms Chick and crew visit Scappoose and St. Helens Oregon
The Peace Candle, worlds tallest candle dedicated on Mother's Day in 1971 and again in its current state in 1997. In 1971, it was covered in all colors of actual candle wax with large drips melted down the sides and it had an eternal flame. The wax didn't fare well during the hot sun and the forever flame was too expensive. Since then, the candle was covered in fiberglas, painted and has a neon flame.
Ms Chick arrived during stormy weather with short breaks in the clouds and down pours. On a clear day, Mt Hood would be in the background here. The group were not interested in spending time outside in the rain.
Ms Chick and friends are on the welcome sign at the base of the totem pole...really.
Scappoose's native American meaning is: "gravelly plains or gravelly ground"
The Columbia County Courthouse in St. Helens, Oregon, where part of Halloween town was filmed and some of the Twilight sagas. Every year during October, the courtyard becomes Halloween town complete with the giant pumpkin.

Days later, This was the best we could do to see Mt Hood during Ms Chick's visit. It's in the distance behind the clouds. She has stayed as long as she could, it's time for her to visit other wonderful places.

Errol is a Great Grey Owl.
After a long Hot summer recovering from a broken arm and leg resulting from a car accident on May 15th, this was my first painting since the Red Trucks.
Yes....it was my painting arm.

Happy New Year, Welcome 2014
Happy New Year to all visitors to this blog. I hope you have a healthy and prosperous 2014.
I wanted to begin the year a little differently. My first thought was to post art every day.....which I may still do. I attempted to do just that a couple of years ago and managed to get through one month. My hats off to any of you who are able to create art every day and post. It may or may not be easier with a full time job as I and most of you have.....I think it would be hard no matter what. Instead of my trying to complete a painting every day to post, I will attempt something a little more doable and less stressful for this artist. I will draw, doodle, paint, carve/tool, create, something each day that makes me happy. If it isn't too terrible, I will post it for all to either enjoy.....or not. I hope it will be the former.
Anyway.....Happy New Year.

Black Swan

I painted this fellow from a photo I took at Animal Kingdom when I was on vacation in Florida in 2010.
The tricky part about acrylic painting for me is keeping white bright and sparkling. It tends to dull and turn gray.

Armored Carousel Horse
Two images of an Armored Carousel Horse which are typically the lead horse on Carousels. It's the horse the carousel operator counts as he passes during the ride.
This fellow is "carved" in leather, then painted with acrylics.
Leather carving and painting in acrylics are not new to me.....putting the two together was new. I usually stain tooled leather. I was pleased with the result.
I've added this image after I corrected part of the painted portion.
It was difficult to get the brightness and color right when saving the photo. The first images are closer to the actual tone.
